Provision of Portable Drinking Water
Access to clean drinking water is a basic human right, but for many people in rural areas, it is still an unattainable luxury. Lack of access to cleanwater can lead to a number of serious healthissues, including diarrhea, cholera, and typhoid. It also creates barriers to education andeconomic opportunity.
Without clean drinkingwater, people must spend hours each daycollecting water from distant sources, leavinglittle time for school or work. The lack of clean drinking water also has seriousconsequences for women and girls. Girls in ruralareas often miss school because they must spendtheir days fetching water.
This limits theireducational opportunities and perpetuatesgender inequality. Women and girls are also atgreater risk of assault when they must travel longdistances to collect water. By providing accessto clean drinking water in rural areas, we canreduce the burden on women and girls, improvehealth and education outcomes, and createeconomic opportunities.
